He went on to serve as the flag lieutenant at Commander Operational Test and Evaluation Force in Norfolk VA, as a RIO instructor at the F-14 fleet training squadron, VF-101, in Virginia Beach VA, and as the Anti-Air Warfare officer and Tactical Action Officer aboard USS Enterprise based in Alameda CA. During his first of two Big "E" deployments, he participated in Operation Preying Mantis against Iran in April 1988. In 1990 he joined VF-31, back in Virginia Beach, VA, where on the last deployment of the USS Forrestall, he flew F-14 reconnaissance and combat air patrol missions over northern Iraq as part of Operation Provide Comfort. He also decided to stop just riding in aircraft and earned his private pilot license. All Saints Day 1995 marked his retirement from Naval service. Steve achieved over 2000 flight hours flying in F-14, F-4, F-15, and A-4 tactical aircraft and survived 471 carrier-arrested landings, including initial student carrier qualifications in the F-14 as a RIO instructor. He earned five sea service ribbons making three extended deployment cruises from the U.S. as well as spending over two years permanently forward deployed on the USS Midway. Steve and Monique have lived in Fairfax County VA and he has worked for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) since 1995. As a senior systems analyst, he has supported Navy and Air Force budgetary decision-makers with computer modeling and simulation analysis. He is currently supporting OSD/PA&E Joint Data Support's efforts to develop study quality scenarios for the new JWARS model. He has been actively involved in local volunteer efforts such as D.C. He is also on the Caring Community for Children advisory committee, the Medical Care for Children Program advisory committee, the Occoquan Watershed Coalition and The Joshua Foundation as well as an instructor for the Keep It Simple, Say No (KISSN) abstinence program in the Prince William and Fauquier County Public Schools. Steve is running for reelection to the Fairfax County School Board. One of his primary motivations is to protect the future of this nation as he and his fellow military members have protected it from current-day threats. If the children of today, who will be the nation tomorrow, do not have the basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics, they will not be able to climb to the heights in business, science and technology, that have made this nation great. They will not know the heritage and history of our land or understand our form of government in order to continue on the course set by those who have gone before us. They will not appreciate the sacrifice of those who never came home to their families giving their all for the freedoms they enjoy. |
