I had the pleasure of attending the Fairfax County Branch NAACP tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. yesterday at the First Baptist Church of Vienna. It was a wonderful event with fabulous music and a stirring message marred only by the inappropriately partisan speech by Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Kate Hanley. Congressman Tom Davis gave a stirring tribute to Dr. King. Supervisor Catherine Hudgins gave a very nice talk on the importance of education in Dr. King's life and legacy. Unfortunately Chairman Hanley took this time of remembrance of the life of a great sacrificial leader to give a blatantly partisan political speech. It was wholly inappropriate to the occasion where we were celebrating the life of a man that preached forgiveness and love for all. Chairman Hanley should apologize for her abuse of the invitation to partake in this otherwise superb event.
